Midlands Wrekin Raiders is often mispronounced. The correct pronunciation is "REE-kin" (/ˈriːkɪn/) Raiders. The Wrekin is a prominent hill in our home county, Shropshire and is a well known landmark in the area.
The Midlands Wrekin Raiders was founded in 2022 our coaches Ann Maclean and Heather Metcalf. The original committee was completed by James Batsford (Chairman), Louise Batsford-Carrington (Treasurer) and Hannah Whitmore (Safeguarding Lead).
The team was formed to provide ice time dedicated to upcoming female ice hockey players and as a development path for the Telford Wrekin Raiders - a division 2 team in the Women's National Ice Hockey League (WNIHL).
At the end of the 2024/25 season, a new committee was elected to build on the sterling work of the original team but still in support of the founding coaches Heather and Ann.
